Karen Lauria Saillant, artistic director of International Opera Theater, announces a once in a lifetime multi-performance, double world premiere opportunity for 10 Philadelphia girls. Ms. Saillant is especially looking for girls with sweet natural voices (no belting). This cultural rite of passage/training program experience will take place during the entire month of August, 2015, in both Assisi and Citta’ della Pieve, Italy.
Selected girls will sing in an International Festival in Assisi, Italy for the world premiere of an Italian/Latin cantata dedicated to the life of the extraordinary German mystic, recently named saint: Hildegard de Bingen.
After the performance in Assisi, they will continue rehearsal in an Italian opera house, next to professional opera singers, for the world premiere of “Error!” (based on a video game themed world premiere to be sung in Italian). In the opera, girls will be a multicultural, narrative ensemble for International Opera Theater’s 12th world premiere Italian opera celebrating Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors”.
This will be the first time in history “Comedy of Errors” has be made into an opera with original music.
Girls will portray novitiates: both serious (in Hildegard piece) and comic (in Error!). In “Hildegard: Child Mystic”, they will portray 12th century German girls singing the music of the great Hildegard and also text of Hildegard, compiled by Karen Saillant and translated into Italian by Maria Luisa Meo and set to music by Sardinian composer, Mariano Garau. In “Error!” they will portray a modern day, giggling & wide eyed novitiates who are participating in a video game reality, filled with ERROR!, singing the music of well known Venezuelan composer: Efrain Amaya, set to text of famous Antonio Fava (Reggio Emilia) author/comedia master.
Both pieces will be under the artistic guidance and stage direction of Karen Saillant
In addition, the girls will participate in a program with IOT Artistic/Stage Director, Karen Saillant, which includes Italian language, voice, movement & performance skills based on “In Harmony With Nature”, the 50 year work of Ms. Saillant.
The girls will study and live in the beautiful Renaissance town of Citta’ della Pieve, in the hills of Umbria, between Rome and Florence, for the month of August.
Performance in Assisi
will be in Santa Maria degli Angeli built around the cell where Saint Frances died.
In Citta’ della Pieve
Performances will be in Teatro degli Avvaloranti on August 28,29,30.
Production will combine professionals (singers, Italian conductor, chamber orchestra, stage director) with 10 talented, multicultural females from Philadelphia. For consideration, please send video of singing (can be informal video made with cell phone) to firstname.lastname@example.org .
